Choosing A Topical Cream Or Lotion

Making your face look younger

Making your face look younger

There is little doubt that topical creams and lotions will probably never be a short-term replacement for plastic surgery. However, in the long run, the topical cream or lotion will definitely be an excellent replacement, since plastic surgery results begin to deteriorate within 24 hours of the surgery. As time progresses, the fat will begin to build up again, and the wrinkles will start to reform. On the other hand, if you continue to apply the cream/lotion faithfully, the results will continue and be maintained.

With thousands of creams and lotions on the market today promising maximum results and “best alternative to liposuction,” is it possible to choose one for your body, especially the sensitive skin of your face? Experts agree that there are a few things to watch for when you choose a topical cream or lotion to minimize wrinkles or other appearances of aging.

  • Check the ingredients. This is especially important if you have any known allergies. Some creams contain harmful ingredients that can cause reactions, such as salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Common side effects of an allergic reaction include rash, swelling, redness, and irritation, but more serious side effects such as anaphylactic shock can happen in rare cases.
  • Read the directions. We all lead very busy lives, and we don’t want to have to take a break every 4-6 hours to apply new lotion, especially women who wear makeup daily. Look for overnight or once/twice daily creams and/or lotions.
  • Research the brand name. If you have any doubts as to the veracity of a brand name’s claims, check them out. Many websites are devoted to reviewing products, and you can normally read a plethora of comments on any given topical cream. In addition, look for clinical trials and their results. These are also very helpful.
  • Ask a healthcare professional. Whether you choose to speak to a doctor, pharmacist, dermatologist, or another health-care specialist, they can normally recommend very helpful products. Overall, many would rather recommend a cream or lotion than perform plastic surgery on any given patient.

Above anything else, never use something that is not over the counter without a valid prescription. Your best friend may have a prescription wrinkle treatment cream that works for her skin, but could cause problems or counteract another medication for you. Always talk to your doctor before using something that is not prescribed to you.

Neck Lift Alternatives – Home Remedies

How to keep from going under the knife

How to keep from going under the knife

As we age, gravity takes a larger effect on the nature of our skin. Commonly, men and women in their late forties and early fifties begin to see their skin sag around the jaw and neck. It is a sign of age and something society is determined to defy. There are corrective surgeries available in the form of neck lifts, where surgeons physically reposition the flesh of the neck and jaw and remove excess or use thread lift procedures to tuck excess skin out of view. If surgery is not feasible for you, it might be worth trying some home remedies designed to tighten the skin.

First, it is important to remember to treat your neck the same as your face. Daily washings, exfoliation and moisturizing are a key part of preventative action and keeping those youthful qualities present. If you’re using a skin smoothing lotion on your face, be sure to use it on your neck as well. The best thing you can do to prevent neck sagging is to always hold your head high and stand with good posture. This encourages the neck to stay straight, keeping the skin from folding where it should not.

Mixtures such as Aspirin and green tea mask can help lift sagging skin and also help it to feel rejuvenated. It’s an easy concoction, using ingredients found around the house, and can also be made in advance. Aspirin and green tea masks work best when used as part of a daily skin care routine. Here is what you’ll need to make your own.

- 1 regular strength Aspirin
- 1 tsp of green tea macha
- 2 tsp of full fat unflavored/unsweetened yogurt, olive oil, or almond oil
- 1 tsp of honey

First, grind your Aspirin into a fine powder, and then mix all listed ingredients together until they form a smooth paste. Apply to the face and neck, and leave for about 15 minutes. When time is up, rinse the paste off using cool water and then wash and moisturize as normal. The active ingredients in Aspirin will help reduce susceptibility to acne while helping to tighten skin.

It’s important that only one aspirin is used per mixture, otherwise it could severely dry out the skin. If you do not have acne problems, the recipe should be doubled per Aspirin used. For example, if you use two aspirin in the mixture, you should use two teaspoons of honey and green tea and four teaspoons of yogurt/olive oil/almond oil.

This remedy works best for minor sagging of the neck skin. If you’ve got intense sagging or wrinkling, consult with a doctor or plastic surgeon, since cosmetic surgery may be the only option that will rectify the situation.
