Tummy Tucks are not Liposuction Alternatives
The desire to be young again and to have that perfect body is on everyone’s mind as they contemplate cosmetic surgery. Many women after giving child birth will contemplate getting a tummy tuck to have a flat stomach and beautiful physique. A tummy tuck will flatten the abdomen and give you the look you desire, safely with proven results. It is a means of increasing your self-esteem and a means of causing you to walk proudly once more.
What is a Tummy Tuck?
Abdominoplasty is the proper name for a tummy tuck which is not a liposuction alternative and it is considered major surgery. The procedure is normally done with general anesthesia or in some cases using a local anesthetic with sedative. The procedure will last from two to five hours depending on the amount of skin and area to be worked on.
The tummy tuck was the only way to remove large quantities of fat until liposuction came around, and in many cases a tummy tuck and liposuction often have the same results. One major difference is that a tummy tuck will more often than not leave a scar on the patient’s lower stomach where the surgery had to take place. Liposuction does not do this because there is only a small incision and this is partly the reason the liposuction method is more often used currently than the tummy tuck. Candidates for Tummy Tucks
Women desiring a tummy tuck must be in fairly good physical condition. Women who have an extreme amount of elasticity in their skin, for example a woman after a pregnancy, or after a large weight loss are prime candidates. This is because with liposuction, the ideal candidates have good un-stretched muscles under the fat. Older women are also prime candidates for this surgery, as they will tend to have sagging skin as part of the normal aging process.
